Electile Disfunction

A few weeks back (damn! Will I ever catch up?!) Amy asked “If you were running for President, what would your policies be and what would you say to get elected?”

This question brings to mind a Douglas Adams quote which I enjoy…

“Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.”

I think with the rarest of exceptions – Those who become president, do so on the shoulders of shady dealings, corporate special interest groups, back-room deals, blatant pandering and hollow campaign promises.

With that said, I think the office of the presidency would be completely incompatible w/ my personal code of conduct. I may be many things, good and bad, but I always try to be honest, straight-forward and fair; even to a fault. I value results over action. When I make a promise, I damned-well do my very best to keep it.

While this may sound like a good platform for a campaign, the key difference is that I actually believe in it. It’s more than marketing jargon, campaign politics or election-year pandering.

There is also the problem of my personality. For the most-part, people dislike me (neutral or worse) on first or early impressions. It’s been a problem I’ve struggled with all my life. As people get to know me, they come to like me as a true friend, someone they can depend upon and someone they enjoy being around. Or… they completely and totally hate my guts. I’m a very polarizing figure. I could go on and on about why I think that’s the case but I’ll save that for another post. As it relates to my electability; it would take a while for people to warm-up to my personality… if they ever did.

So… Don’t vote for me, I don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell.
