PSS: The Truth of Fiction?

Other Kim asks me…  If you could suddenly find out that one work of fiction was actually true, what book would you select?  Hrmmm.  Interesting.  It actually reminds me of a question I was asked in a job interview lately.  If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be.  I was taken somewhat by surprise at this question.  Fairly personal for a job interview, but I was intriqued all the same.  After a moment of thought I replied “Nothing.. actually.  The net of what I am today, my family, my children, my life in general are the net result of my experiences and choices, good or bad, that I’ve made in the past.  I can only hope to learn from the mistakes and capitalize on the successes”.  A good answer I thought, especially when you consider I pulled it out of my ass, but as you might guess; I didn’t get the job. fiction.jpg And while this is not an apples to apples comparison, I think the same applies here.  Nothing good in fiction ever comes without a price.  Space travel brings you scary aliens, greed and deep space disasters.  Magic brings you skeletons, curses and evil wizards.  Even in non-scifi references, the characters and more importantly the collateral characters (aka extras, like me) are often put in harms way all in an attempt to allow the Hero prove is worth.  Thanks, but no.  I think we as human beings are so limited for our own good.  When given capabilities of the extraordinary they quickly run afoul.  So in answer to the question.  I would not risk bringing an work of fiction to life for fear the consequences would prove tragic.  Sorry.
