There’s no place like… somewhere else!
This week Kim from www.lostinplace.org asks: “What makes you homesick for Utah? Do you get homesick? And on the other side of the coin, what makes you absolutely certain you never, ever want to go back there again.”
What do I miss and what makes me never want to go back again? Well that’s pretty simple the answer to both is family. I really miss being able to hang out with family, have babysitters close-at-hand and getting to see everyone. Of course on the other side of the coin it’s often what helps remind us to be happy where we are. Every time I hear of some new family drama, some new bickering or not being able to spend holiday without running house-to-house it reminds me how nice it is to be away from home.
At the end of the day, if I could have it as good in Utah as I have it in Virginia, I’d move back. But the Utah job market is crap and only going to get worse as the economy self-destructs over the next few years. The wise bet is to stay in the government-heavy job market of N. VA.
Outside today makes me know I never wanna go back. Sure, they may get a whole lot of snow, which I LOVE but you also HAVE to drive everywhere in it. I like that here, they care a little bit more about safety and allow you to ditch work or work from home and that they cancel schools to keep the kids safe. Ahhhh… Va is so much more caring of their peeps
I don’t think VA cares more about their “peeps”. I think Utah dumps tons of money into cleaning the roads and with out that our econmy would shut down 4 months out of the year. And about school being closed. If we closed the schools to many kids would be home alone. Snow or no snow, people need to work to keep their families going, so those kids would be in more danger AND they would have to make up the days after the normal let out day.
So, although I hate the snow, and I am not sure how I eneded up in Utah, I dont think its that VA cares more, its just they dont want to have to spend the money.
