Hrmmm. Interesting question and one that I’m inclined to answer with a ‘none ya’ damned business’ as it’s everyone’s right to keep their vote private and personal. So to directly answer the question, were the election held today who would I vote for? As much as I hate to say it, I just don’t know. I’m still undecided.
I’m undecided in the sense that I’ve still not made a final decision, and likely will not for some time. However I do need to draw the line between myself and the “undecided” they typically drag out on the news or after debates. You know the ones, who apparently have no opinion and usually get the names of the candidates wrong. No, I like to stay informed, but also not settle in until later in the game. However I will tell you what I’m thinking about right now.
Republican or Democrat? Not really thrilled with either party, but 3rd parties don’t really have a chance in the presidential election. Republicans have essentially tromped all over the constitution and made it a point to fear-monger at every opportunity. Oh, and lets not forget about being repeatedly lied-to over Iraq. Everyone was so pissed with the Republicans that they got their asses handed to them in the last midterm election. Enter the democrats! Saviors of the constitution! Champions of the people! Finally going to stand up to the evil Republicans! And what did they do? Jack shit.. In fact, if you look at some of the senate and house tapes from early-on after midterms, they are an embarrassment. So, I’m left with the choice of Effective but Evil vs. Total Incompetence. Hrmm. Evil it is.
Now about some of the front-runners. I’ll list Clinton and Obama (yes, I know they aren’t Republicans, but I’d like to weigh-in)
Clinton: Well, she does fit the bill for being “evil” but I doubt she can be effective. The planted questions really pissed me off too. Yes everyone does it, but she was dumb enough to get caught. Duh! However the Clinton’s did make me some good money in the 90’s. Sure there’s that whole BJ deal and some speculate that they didn’t do enough to stop Al Qaeda. But the Republican’s are just as much to blame since they were the one’s who started the Clinton witch-hunt with dangerously distracted them from such important matters as impending terror attacks.
Obama: I like him. I think if we as Americans end up electing him it will show we’ve come a very long ways. I think he’s still a little green though. I think he needs a few more years experience before getting the top seat.
On to the Republicans…
Romney: Impressive track record, but I think he’s getting bad advice from his campaign staff. I think he’s the best bet to correct the cluster-fuck that is our economy. He did an excellent job getting the SLC Olympics out of trouble. He’s got a strong business background. I think his campaign advisors are giving him bad advice though. He’s coming across as weasley and a flip-flopper (gosh, not another rich flip-flopper in the race).
McCain: You gotta respect a guy who has gone through what he has and is still mostly sane. I also respect his views on torture and really took Romney to task on waterboarding. I also like his campaign finance reform. He’s probably the most-honest, straight-forward and ethical candidate on the ticket. All great reasons why he’ll never win.
Giuliani: Mr. 9/11 himself, and he’ll never let us forget about it. Well it was pretty damned easy to look good on 9/11 when put in contrast to Bush’s performance that day. I think Giuliani would be good for cleaning up inner-cities and addressing matters of national importance. But I also think he’s a little shifty (who gets to be Mayor of NYC without having some shadowy connections?) He would likely be plagued by scandal and lose the general election.
Huckabee: I really liked him coming out of the CNN / Youtube debate. You got to admire how well he’s doing despite having such a terrible name. (Bad movie plus it sounds so country-bumpkin how can anyone take him serious?!) His surge in the polls was well earned. However his recent comments on Mormonism do show that he’s not the best at avoiding political questions. Likely get stuck with his foot in his mouth from time to time. If he could change his name to Dash Steelcock or James Harrison TerrorBeater, he’d have it hands down.
What about the others? For whatever reason, they are simply not getting enough attention from the media to make their campaigns viable. I think the final two candidates will come from the candidates I listed above. I’ll even go so far as to make a prediction.
2008 Presidential Election:
Clinton & Obama (VP) on the Democratic Ticket vs. Romney & Some Super-Christian guy to placate those voters who “just don’t trust a mormon”.
But what do I know?
